Work together but isolated

Let 31 industrial design students work together but isolated - on the same project? Inspired by the folded sketch, a child’s game where you draw one part of a character not knowing how the previous or next person will draw theirs.

Designer gas masks

We are in a state of perpetual war – with ourselves and with the eco-system that sustains us. Perpetual war breeds perpetual fear. In the present context, this fear stems from our extreme desire for authenticity and manifests itself in our collectively insatiable culture of consumption.
Deep down, we are afraid we may never be satisfied. An expanding archive of branded myths and icons feeds this fear. Designer Gas Masks is an attempt to visualize this state of mind. Because it is only by first acknowledging and then challenging fear that we will all be able to breathe a little easier.
The masks are currently made for gallery purposes only.

Philip Ross

7' x 6' x 3' Salvaged redwood, steel.

In the Museum of Natural History in NYC there is an eight-foot wide cross section of a Sequoia sempervirens, its polished surface engraved with important dates in human history at corresponding growth rings. It is both awesome and troubling to stand before this several thousand-year-old tree: awesome to see epic time in a physical manifestation, troubling to think about the need for this type of graffiti in the first place. My desire in making Triple-Now-Power is to suggest a view of time that is more complex than a progressive chronology.

"Cartography has long held a fascination for me. Apart from the obvious opportunity for imagination of place and origin, there is the actual physical beauty of the cartographic document, a document that in itself invites sculptural interpretation."

ROLLOUT Custom Wallpaper

ROLLOUT is a creative studio that designs and digitally prints custom wallpapers by the square foot. Recruiting community-based artists and designers, ROLLOUT is constantly on the hunt for exciting ideas from any inspiration. Illustration, photography, graphic design, and industrial design provide media; the walls provide the medium.
ROLLOUT was born out of the need for graphic expression in the interior design industry. Gone are the days of slick minimalism. We embrace texture, expression, emotion and color, filling the gaping hole left by modernism.

Dominic Wilcox

Recent history
While studying at Edinburgh College of Art in 1998, Dominic Wilcox created a collection of objects based on everyday items such as a bed, swing and bird cage. After graduating, he moved to Japan for a year before returning to the UK to study an MA at the Royal College of Art. During this 2 year period of intensive critical debate and creative experimentation he developed a series of objects including War Bowl, Honesty Stamps and Glove.
After leaving the RCA in 2002, he started a collaboration with fellow RCA graduate Steve Mosley called Mosley meets Wilcox. One major MMW project was a collaboration with Rock photographer Mick Rock which ended in a collection of objects exhibited in Sept 2004. Later, a Limited Edition collection was sold exclusively in Paul Smith shops worldwide. In 2006 Dominic went solo, and is currently developing new work, experiments and ideas.

Boogie

Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Boogie began photographing rebellion and unrest during the civil war that ravaged his country during the 1990s. Though he never planned to leave his homeland, a green card won in the national lottery brought him to the United States in 1998.
Boogie settled in Brooklyn, where he resumed his photographic pursuit of those living on the fringe, outside the law, in the margins of society. Selected by Photo District News as Best Photography Book of 2006, his first book, It’s All Good (Miss Rosen Editions/powerHouse Books), documents the gangsters, crackheads, and junkies of New York City’s most notorious neighborhoods.

Theo Jansen

Dutch artist Theo Janse has been working for 16 years to create sculptures that move on their own in eerily lifelike ways.
Studied science at the University of Delft in Holland. After sticking to painting for seven years, he embarked upon a project with a flying saucer - which really flew. It flew over the town of Delft in 1980, drawing the people into the streets and sending the police into pandemonium. For about the last ten years he has been busy with the creation of a new nature - not with pollen or seeds, but with plastic yellow tubes. He makes skeletons which are able to walk in the wind. Eventually he wants to put herds of these animals out on the beaches to live their own lives.

Musac | Mansilla + Tuñón Arquitectos

On a vast urban plan, MUSAC draws the scenario for art with the same optimistic attitude used by the Roman surveyors to sketch their cities in the landscape. In contrast to other types of spaces which, in their museum facet, focus on the exhibition of frozen historic collections, MUSAC is a living space that opens its doors to the wide-ranging manifestations of contemporary art. This is an art centre that constructs a set of chessboards on which the action is the protagonist of the space; a structure that develops from an open system, formed by fabric of squares and rhombi, and permitting the construction of a secret geography of memory. Leaning is a dynamic sculpture - a kaleidoscopic experience of nomadic trails, and folds.
the piece is a hybrid between a physical sculpture and a virtual animation. The random changeable triangles are generated in real-time by software code and merge with the surface of the sculpture. The work is a transformation, embracing two systems, one changing into the other..

Joey Lawrence

Joey Lawrence is a 18 year old Canadian born and raised in Ontario. Joey has been shooting for the last three years and has been recognised by the photographic community with awards from Microsoft, Bogen and the United way.
Some of Joey's first images were taken with a 1.3 megapixel point and shoot camera. Although he has upgraded equipment since then, he proves the eye behind the camera is more important than the device itself.
Joey is not based anywhere specifically and is constantly travelling on photographic jobs and projects between home, Europe, the United States and parts of Asia.

CAI GUO-QIANG

CAI GUO-QIANG has literally exploded the accepted parameters of art making in our time. Drawing freely from ancient mythology, military history, Taoist cosmology, extraterrestrial observations, Maoist revolutionary tactics, Buddhist philosophy, gunpowder-related technology, Chinese medicine, and methods of terrorist violence, Cai’s art is a form of social energy, constantly mutable, linking what he refers to as “the seen and unseen worlds.” This retrospective presents the full spectrum of the artist’s protean, multimedia art in all its conceptual complexity.

OFT transformable house.

OFT, transformable house.
The name OFT comes from the word Loft, in which it has been taken out the "L", that has to be meant like the dimension "Large". The OFT is in fact of limited dimensions in its basic composition, but, as well as the loft, it is characterized by spaces adaptable to changeable necessities.
The OFT, transformable in time and space, it's a highly changeable system, which can easily comply with individual necessities.
We have imagined a home that would easily allowed to assemble different pieces and to change them during the time. Adding or subtracting elements, also temporarily.
The OFT can be a temporary house waiting for other settlement, an holiday house, an home-office to be placed in your garden, a dépendance for your guests, a home for young people who can gradually increase their living space..

OFT, transformable house.

ARKEN
Arken's architecture unfolds as a narrative.
The recurrent narrative of the museum is the ship. Outside as well as inside, fragments of parts and elements of a ship create a maritme atmosphere. Like on a real ship all construction are visible. Even the few recurring ornaments - the bolt and the nut - have been copied from maritime architecture.
Arken's shape, however, is not that of a complete ship. In fact, it looks more like a ship split open. But placed in the maritime surroundings, the building resembles a ship, standed only few metres from sea.

Decapitator

New work from Decapitator
Renegade artist and head-hunter the Decapitator has been bombarding the streets of London with a signature style of graffiti tag - eerily removing the heads from major adverts around town, replacing them with ghastly, gory stumps. (Before and after images of a gruesomely guillotined model in a print ad, right).
Based on the images uploaded to his/her Flickr stream, "The East London Decapitator" as he/she has been dubbed, is largely striking mainstream advertisements, like this High School
